![]() ![]() Having all seven in your possession will allow you access to the final boss of the game.Ĭollecting all seven Chaos Emeralds can be done in a single playthrough, although it might be a bit challenging to find at least six more giant rings to jump into if you fail one of these Special Stages, you'll naturally have to find a replacement ring. You have likely run into a massive ring in Green Hill Zone that you can enter, which takes you to a small stage that gives you the chance to obtain one of the seven Chaos Emeralds. The Encore DLC improves on this two-player mode by upgrading it to include four players. Like Time Attack, there aren't any achievements for this mode. Sticking true to the game that this feature came from, Competition Mode is not available for online play, but it's a fun thing to do if you have friends over or you have a sibling you want to brag to. This mode is a split-screen challenge where you and a friend can see who can get the best time or score on a stage. CompetitionĬompetition is a game mode that should be familiar to anyone who had Sonic the Hedgehog 2 growing up, or at least anyone who's tried to obtain all the achievements in it on the Xbox 360. As such, the Encore DLC is a good purchase if you're interested in dominating as many leaderboards as possible. The Encore DLC adds another 48 leaderboards through the addition of Mighty and Ray, but also doubles that total through the inclusion of the Encore Mode Acts. In the base game, there are over 70 different Act-and-character matchups to choose from, so there's a lot here for speedrunning players. And that includes non-steam games launched through steam.Finishing a Time Attack run will show you your place on the world rankings. After which, you can then use the gamepad in every single steam game, period. Just map your gamepad buttons to this menu, and click save. ![]() If you're using a non-xbox or non-playstation controller, after you do that, steam will ask you to define the controller in terms of an xbox controller, as sort of an intermediary language for the game to communicate with. I'm actually in the process of making a tutorial to show people how to enable all controllers natively through steam, I'll update this post when finished.įor those who can't wait - the steps are that you first need to enable the controller through steam (go to steam -> settings -> controller support -> then check "enable generic gamepad support.) Playstation and Xbox controller users should check "enable playstation/xbox controller" instead, and then they are essentially done. It's a little complicated if you've never used Steam's fantastic controller configuration support, but it's much more recommended than using dodgy 3rd party programs like Joy2Key. By it's nature, every controller is supported in Steam, and steam is supposed to take care of the back end stuff for you. Steam supports all these controllers natively, and without a third party program. Props to Mania team for creating such masterpiece. ![]() Oh, and I hope there will be an option in near future that lets you compare friend's time records in Time Attack, because that would boost the hell out of replay value, if I can compete my friends' time records. Gonna finish Knuckles playthrough tomorrow: played up tillĪnd got every Emerald in 2nd zone already. Although I wasn't too fond for Blue Sphere Bonus Stages because I don't really like 'em much (some layouts are just trollish if you aim for Perfect), and you have to play them to unlock bonus stuff, but then again, this is my personal opinion. Heh, makes me wish that there would be more Special Stages for this game, because man, I love them so much. Personally this is the easiest classic Sonic game to get every Emerald, because I found Special Stages fairly easy once you know how to handle the controls. Only three deaths and that's were because I got crushed. Putting Denuvo-DRM bullshit aside, I did tonight first playthrough as Sonic (/w Tails): managed to get every Emerald in 4th Zone, and had like about 40 lives in the end. ![]()
